« Avatar : Feu et cendres» , le troisième de la franchise, prend l’affiche aujourd’hui, à quelques jours de Noël. Le film de James Cameron promet déjà d’être un succès au box-office du temps des fêtes, malgré sa durée de 3h15. Les critiques sont mitigées, mais tous saluent la qualité des effets spéciaux et des scènes d’action. Nous en avons parlé avec Éric Falardeau, réalisateur et spécialiste des effets spéciaux.
Montréal, 26 août 2021 – THANATOFILMS est fier de présenter l’affiche officielle du prochain court métrage du cinéaste primé Éric Falardeau (Thanatomorphose, The Thing from the Lake,Crépuscule, Coming Home) : ASMODEUS.
Asmodeus est un rituel cinématographique, un autoportrait sanglant, un voyage vers l’illumination chargé d’images occultes dans lequel un homme invoque et rencontre trois incarnations féminines différentes du démon lubrique Asmodeus.
Inspiré de l’avant-garde américaine, des techniques d’effets spéciaux in camera et de l’iconographie du cinéma muet, de l’art de performance et de l’art transgressif, ainsi que de la littérature occulte, Asmodeus est un voyage visuel rempli d’effets pratiques et d’affects puissants. Il est tourné en super 8 mm Kodak Tri-X Black-and-White Reversal par le directeur de la photographie Luc Desjardins avec des effets de maquillage spéciaux par AntonFX.
Asmodeus met en vedette Falardeau dans le rôle principal aux côtés de Stéphanie Cadieux, Juliette Pottier Plaziat et Annaëlle Winand dans celui du démon aux multiples visages.
Les premières mondiales et nord-américaines seront annoncées bientôt. Un coffret limité incluant le film en DVD et la trame sonore en vinyle sera également en vente plus tard cet automne.

Asmodeus is a movie ritual, a gory self-portrait, a journey towards enlightenment, loaded with occult imagery, where a man invokes and meets three different woman-like incarnations of the lustful demon Asmodeus.
Inspired by the American avant-garde, silent cinema’s incamera special effects techniques and iconography, performance and transgressive art, and occult authors, Asmodeus is a visual trip full of practical effects and powerful affects. It is shot on spectral super8mm Kodak Tri-X Black-and-White Reversal film by cinematographer Luc Desjardins with special make up effects by AntonFX.
Asmodeus stars Falardeau in the main role with Stéphanie Cadieux, Juliette Pottier Plaziat and Annaëlle Winand as the multifaceted demon.
World and North American premieres will be announced soon. A limited box set including the DVD movie and vinyl soundtrack will also be on sale later this fall.
« Depending on who you ask, Thanatomorphose will either « fascinate, aggravate, and impress, » or it’s « all grue, little substance. » No one will tell you that this 2012 Canadian body horror flick is something that you should watch on a full stomach. Even the film’s detractors say that it « ought to challenge even the most robust of gore fans when it comes to some of its nastiest moments. »
For most of the film, it’s a one-woman show, as Kayden Rose plays Laura, a woman with a decaying personal life whose body abruptly begins to decay as well after a night of particularly rough intercourse. The bruises that she finds the next morning don’t fade. Instead, they spread and eventually become something much worse. While Rose may be the star, the « special effects are the true stomach-churning winner of the day, » according to Dread Central. »
