Thanatomorphose Honored at the Bogotá Horror Film Festival

We are proud to announce that, during its seventh edition, the Bogotá Horror Film Festival awarded ThanatomorphoseSpecial Mention in the Transgressive Film category.

Granted by the international jury chaired by Michael Berryman, this distinction highlights the film’s radical visionvisual power, and artistic boldness, which explore the boundaries of the body and horror through a unique and striking creative approach.

This recognition further establishes Thanatomorphose as a reference point in contemporary transgressive cinema, celebrating the strength of the genre as an extreme, symbolic, and deeply human form of artistic expression.

The kick-off of the 58th SITGES – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia is fast approaching. In addition to all the films that we have been announcing up to now, there are also new developments presented by the Industry Department, which once again this year is committed to promoting genre films through initiatives such as WomanInFan, Sitges FanPitch, and Coming Soon.

Sitges FanPitch Presents a World-Class Lineup

For the eleventh consecutive year, the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia is organizing Sitges FanPitch, its feature film and series production project pitch competition. For this year’s edition, seven feature films and five series have been selected, which will also be joined by the project selected at Sitges FanPitch Catalunya Imaginària and those coming from Sitges FanPitch’s collaborating audiovisual markets.

In the feature film format, we will have Neo Forest by Japanese director Keishi Kondo, a horror film that draws inspiration from movies such as Saint MaudRing, and Possessor, starring the iconic Eihi Shiina; Black Samphire by British director Catherine Joy White, an example of contemporary folk horror with an all-female leading cast; The Still Man by British director Emily Greenwood, who was among the finalists of the II WomanInFan Fantastic Residency and who presents a supernatural thriller with echoes of It Follows; 10 Mickeys by Miguel Llansó, a tragicomedy that combines 2D animation, live-action, stock footage, and found footage; Umbra by William Miller, a classic horror film shot in Catalonia that borrows from the archaeological and mythological history of its locations; Grandmonster by Norwegian director Vegard Dahle, a horror comedy about dignity and the inconvenient reality of being eaten by your grandmother; The Escape by Paul Urkijo Alijo, a visceral story about survival in its most extreme sense, and La forma animal by Spanish directors Sofia Esteve and Isa Luengo (also selected to participate in the III WomanInFan Fantastic Residency), an approach to historical memory from the fantastic genre that has been selected as the standard-bearer for the Catalunya Imaginària label.

Unboxing the Underground

A Conversation with Filmmaker Éric Falardeau (Thanatomorphose, The Thing From the Lake, Asmodeus)

Kicking off 2025 with the third installment of Unboxing the Underground’s ‘A Conversation With’ series! We dive into a chat with writer-director Éric Falardeau about the production process of his 2012 body horror feature Thanatomorphose, his oeuvre of work as a whole, the film festival circuit, and what it means to create extreme cinema.

Welcome to Kelly’s Taboo Terrors, a monthly podcast that explores the transgressive side of cinema. These movies, and discussions, are not for the faint of heart so listeners discretion is strongly advised.

As far as necrophilia films go, none are more recognizable than German filmmaker, Jorg Buttgereit’s, Nekromantik. Epitomizing underground transgressive cinema, Nekromantik shows us the sensual side of the paraphilia, giving us a film with a legacy of sexual depravity and iconic imagery. A cerebral exploitation film that forces us to witness sex, death and body fluids, and how they cum together so perfectly. Can we fuck the fear of death away?

My guest for this episode is Éric Falardeau! Éric has written and directed short films, music videos, the cult horror feature Thanatomorphose (2012), which has won him several awards in film festivals. He also wrote the porn-horror movie The Thing from the Lake (2019). Éric has guest-curated exhibitions at the Cinémathèque québécoise and published volumes on erotic cinema, the history of special effects in Quebec, and on body fluids in gore and pornography. He is currently working on his second feature film!!!
